We often wonder what great opportunities lie out there in wait. What we should be more proactive about, is going out there and seizing the opportunity with the commitment and tenacity of bare-handed fishing. Its arguable how much a foundation or support there is out there for artists and the art community (we're talking about the fine arts here) in Brunei to find that kind of self-motivation within ourselves to venture out into the wild.
Don't get yourself down and just start with some research online about places you can find the right kind of resources and support you need to develop and further your career as an artist. One of the readily available platform there is currently is the EMERGE Project.
What is this 'EMERGE' project?
EMERGE is an initiative program by Creative Space Gallery & Studio, it began in April 2016 and is about enriching and recording the local art culture we have by enhancing the local Creative Industries landscape. The project provides both physical and online platforms for FREE to Brunei's young and emerging artists to showcase their art and further develop their talents. This project aims to foster the creative youth to transform their art practice into a sustainable career and more importantly to aspire to make their artwork relevant and competitive internationally.
So what exactly are the benefits of joining such exhibitions aside from it being free? The project has hosted 18 local artists and 47 artworks up to date and this year four EMERGE artists have been selected to showcase their artworks in the ASYAAF project in Korea, Dongdeamun Design Plaza from the 25th of July till the 20th of August 2017 (excited to share more about this in another article!). You just never know what lies on the other side of the door until you open it, so fish with your bare hands!
The project is currently holding it's fifth exhibition: EMERGE 4 with the premise 'Synesthesia' and is currently holding an open call till the 6th of August 2017 and if you're interested you're just a click away to signing up!
