Faizal Hamdan was born in 1975 and is currently an art and design lecturer at a sixth form center in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. He works in painting, sculpture and installation art. The contemporary artist has exhibited in many different countries such as Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore and most recently the Philipines The notions of identity, time and space are the main interests of Faizal Hamdan. Most of Faizal’s artworks evolve from his personal experience, it can be serious yet playful at the same time.
We at Creative Space Art gallery & Studio have been honored to present his unique piece of art work entitled ‘'Talur' (Apa Kamu Bawa?)’ for the exhibition: EMERGE4: SYNESTHESIA, which runs from the 10th of September, 2017 to the 30th of November, 2017.
What makes the practice of the artist unique is that he uses an illusional space created by optical illusion. Although it is not interactive as using a physical space, it somehow develops a different kind of atmospheric feel and belief to his viewers, depending on how they analyze the space.
Being a chaotic artist has given him the freedom to wonder. 'Talur' is a sincere statement or his simply personal interpretation of the lyrics found in the song 'O kanak kanak'. A translation of the metaphorical lyrics into a sculptural composition of mundane objects.

Faizal Hamdan was particularly interested with the theme of the exhibition (Synesthesia) because artists have the opportunity to visualize their intentions or ideas the way they see it or how they want the audience to see it. The first thing that came to Faizal’s mind once he read about the exhibition was the song ‘O kanak kanak’ and the two eggs. According to him, this song is a simple song for children with a deep reminder embedded in the lyrics.
The composition of mundane objects in his sculpture is an attempt to translate the song into a visual form as well as inviting the audience to have their own perception on it. The piece of art Faizal Hamdan created is sincere and he managed to make something interesting from something simple.

EMERGE 4: SYNESTHESIA runs from the 10th of September, 2017 to the 30th of November, 2017. The public are invited to visit Creative Space Art Gallery & Studio, 10. 00a.m to 4. 00p.m every day except Mondays and Fridays.
EMERGE is an initiative by Creative Space Art Gallery & Studio to provide a platform for local emerging artist to showcase their artworks to the public.
